The Cupcakes are all mine…

Tonight I hosted our Bible study group from church. We rotate locations and this was my 2nd week hosting. Today was a crazy day… I worked Mon & Tue evenings… I got home this morning, slept up until about 1pm and then frantically tried to clean (and if you have SEEN mine place in ANY city that I’ve lived… it’s pretty much the same description.. messy) & then went out to get snacks for tonight.

Blah, blah, blah…

We’ll just skip to the part where I made a batch of cupcakes… they turned out great… White cake w/ cherry chocolate chips, white fluffy frosting, and red sprinkles… YUM. (ok… they AREN’T as good as the ones at Flying Monkey in Philly …but I have a new best place… Society Bakery in Dallas..but I digress).

Blah, Blah, Blah…

After group I got a call from Steve… the guy I went out with on Friday night… We talked for over an hour before he said that he just wanted to be upfront with me and tell me that he didn’t see a dating relationship in our future… he said that he KNEW that I felt the same way… but, of course, he said “he wasn’t going to drop off the face of the world and he still wanted to be friends…” (aka.. the universal sentence of telling someone that you’ll never see them again).

Tonight I feel rejected.

Tomorrow I’ll be fine.

I think I’ll go have another cupcake.

Or two.

Or three..

No, probably most definitely only two.

All I ask…

Why can’t I find a decent hair salon in Indianapolis??????????????????????

That’s it.

Some thoughts before I leave for work…

Happy June 14th.. aka “Flag Day”… I’m not sure what exactly happened on Flag Day… I guess I should after living in the historical center of America for almost 10 years…

Here is my stuff for the day…

1. I had a date on Friday night (June 11) with a guy I met from Eharmony. There will not be a 2nd one. Which is ok with me… He was 41, but a very old 41. I thought we had a decent time but he never really gave his opinion about anything during the whole night. We went for Mexican, then I suggested Ice Cream at this stand that has been around forever.. finally we went to a park for a walk… Well, it was funny because I walk really fast… even when I think I’m walking slow… I’m walking fast… He never said anything until I said that we had done about 3 laps around the park… At that point he was like “wow.. you walk really fast and almost couldn’t keep up… (he was joking, I think… this is a guy who runs 1/2 marathons all the time). When we got back to our cars I said all the proper things.. He didn’t say anything… just got into his car and didn’t look back. I took that as a “don’t wait for my call”… which, I haven’t & I won’t.

2. I don’t know why I keep chasing something that clearly is not in my cards to ever happen. I am just not supposed to be married. Period.

3. Usually every night at work I take a water pitcher for the night and write my name and date on it… My goal is to drink at least 2 pitchers of water/night (about 1 Liter)… Anyway, on Thursday night someone (I have not idea who) wrote “BIAN” after my name… I always call myself “Les”…. It was just an immature joke I’m sure… but at the same time… The whole gay issue has crossed my mind more than a time or two. I know I’m not gay, but what if I’m just fooling myself. Heck, even Jeremy the Jerk thought I was gay (quirky Jewish guy who is now married).

4. Eharmony account will be cancelled by August 6th. I can’t do it anymore… If I try to sign up again… please find someone to take my computer and credit cards away.

5. Work. Still like it. Day positions are coming available…but I’m not sure… I’m thinking about staying on nights until I find a position that I really, really want in a department that I really, really, really want to be in.

6. White Sox took 2 out of 3 from the Cubs AND ruined a no-hitter last night…. I say that was a good series.

7. Saw Billy Elliott on Saturday afternoon w/ my mom in Chicago. Sat in the front row… Fell asleep during 1/2 of it. Bummer.

8. Looks like next trip to Philly isn’t happening until March 2011. Again, during the Winter… UGH.

9. I bought a bike. And a helmet. Hoping it’s nice this Thursday… going to try and ride it.

That’s about it… nothing else to report.

Toots for now.

Hot Friday

Sitting here listening to The Swell Season while I wait for 8pm to roll around. My exciting evening…. watching Friday Night Lights and cleaning my bathroom. A low key evening for sure. I’m working for someone tomorrow morning and have to get up way early. I was PROMISED that I would be able to leave on time tomorrow (aka.. that hour they call 3.30pm) no matter what. I have to leave Indy for Louisville by 4.30pm. I must of told my manager & shift coordinator 20x that it was IMPERATIVE that I leave on time. It was the only way I was going to do the shift. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

So… I bought a bike today. My first bike since I was 16. I used to have a funky 10 speed from the early 80s and well, my brother let one of his friends borrow it and it was stolen. Never had another bike. Never really wanted one until I moved here. There are some great trails that go all around the city. Also, Indianapolis has something called the “Nite Ride”. It’s a 20 mile ride in downtown Indy that starts at 11pm. They close some of the streets and people come out to watch the ride as it goes through town. It’s supposedly a huge event. I was very thankful for the guy at the bike shop. I literally went in and said “hey… I have NO CLUE what I want.. please help me.” And he did. He was way patient and by the time I left I had a new bike, I found out that I can indeed still ride the thing (it was wobbly at the start), and I know how to take the front wheel off and on again.

That’s about it from here… I’m working all weekend again (it’s my holiday to work). But after Monday night’s shift.. I’m off for 6 days!! Sometimes it really does pay to be a nurse.

Toots for now.

Wednesday Night…

I’m back from Nashville. Yea. I’m dog tired… drove a little out of my way today so it took me an extra 90 minutes to get home (I’ll explain later).

Scott, I know you’re dying to know the answer to your question. Here it is: Nothing. Nada. Zilch.

So, Nashville. The Swell Season was scheduled to play at the Ryman Auditorium last night. So, the minute I heard this earlier this year I bought a ticket. I ended up driving down Monday afternoon and staying over two nights. It was a great little mini-break. Nashville is really a great city.

I went to a few local places: like Target & TJ Maxx. 🙂 Actually, I was given a great recommendation for breakfast. It’s called the Pancake Pantry and it’s located very near to the Vanderbilt University campus. I normally HATE pancakes (it’s a texture thing… most seem to get too soggy when they are in syrup for too long)…but when in Rome, it’s best to act like the Romans. So, I ordered the sugar & spice pancakes and they were amazing… YUM. They were so good, I went back this morning before I left town for another helping. The waitress recognized me and knew exactly what I wanted! Very Southern Hospitality.

My hotel was ok… I’m not sure if I would stay there again. Supposedly the normal price for a room is $150-200 range… Well, I scored this one on for $70/night. Honestly I feel sorry for the people who paid the regular fee. It was the Millennium Maxwell House hotel. The room was nice enough…but there were some issues… The worse was the shower. I took a shower on Monday night and ended up standing up to my ankles in water. Yuck. Nothing worse than used shower water on my feet (ok.. there are WORSE things..). I was going to say something the next morning when I was reading on (a GREAT site for honest reviews of just about everything). Anyway, someone submitted a review saying the exact same thing about his shower experience.

The 2nd thing that irked me just a little bit… I left on Tuesday morning to find a Target/get breakfast/explore/etc around 8.30am. I got back to the room around 4.30ish to change and take a nap before the show… Well, my room was still not cleaned. There was a maid around the corner and I asked her about it and she said that they always had to do the people that checked out first before people who are staying. I guess in my wisdom of all things hotel management-wise.. I think it would make sense to clean the rooms as they become available since people don’t have to leave until Noon. One would think that if I was out of the room before 9am and other people stayed until Noon.. they could clean my room while waiting for the others to check out… Ok… I’ll stop complaining.

The show: The Swell Season is incredible. I love everything about this band. I love Glen (you know what I mean… I don’t LOVE Glen… but I love Glen….). I love the violin player… it was his birthday last night and he played an amazing song (the same one that he played during the Fall tour)… but, this time he was playing it for his sister who was not well… it just seemed a little more heart felt. The Ryman is dripping with history. It’s an old church and we sat on pews (which, honestly starting hurting my butt about 2 hours in). I was in the 7th pew from the stage. The show lasted from 7.30 until 11pm. TSS started at 8.30p.

On the way home today I took a few detours… First detour: Bowling Green, KY. I stopped off at the National Corvette Museum to get some info. My dad bought his corvette 6 months after I was born. It’s a classic & rare version of a 1972 Stingray. I love this car. I love the memories I have of my parents and me riding in it when I was still tiny enough to fit in the back. My dad only brings the car home for the summer months now… it’s stored the rest of the year. The museum has a program where you can loan your car for up to a year to be shown as an exhibit. I’m hoping to convince him to apply for the program. People have offered to buy the car just by seeing it parked in the drive way… It’s an amazing car.

2nd detour: I went to see Abe Lincoln’s boyhood home in Kentucky. I went 20 miles off the highway to see a log cabin. It truly was a one room log cabin. Which was locked up. Which means I looked at it for 3 minutes and drove back.

3rd detour: Downtown Louisville… Very fun place. Definitely want to go back and spend some time there.

Only bad news from driving home… A huge rock hit my windshield & cracked it. I’m going to see tomorrow if it can be filled, but I’m thinking it’s a little bigger and probably will need to be replaced. UGH.

Ok… that’s about it for now.

I’m back on the crack again…

I joined eharmony (AGAIN).

Like I said… I’m like a drug addict… I say I’ll NEVER do it again… and a mere two weeks later… I’m spending money on it again.

Will someone please just take my computer away from me. I wish I could tally how much money I have wasted in the 8 years I have been on & off & on with eharmony.

that’s it.

Rainy Sunday

That’s it. Just bored.
