Still here.

Nothing really all that exciting to report. I have to let the recruiter know by Friday which job I’m taking in Indy. I’m amazed at what $800/month (what I pay now for rent) can  get in Indy… two bedrooms, 1.5 baths, blah, blah, blah… stone fireplace. I was walking around Philly the last few days during my lunch breaks from class. I will definitely miss the city. It’s such a great walking city…especially on sunny 80 degree days like today.

That’s it. Just not in the mood to write all that much for some reason…

Two job offers from the hospitals in Indianapolis.

One more interview at Geisinger Medical Center next week.

Don’t know what to do.

Big Waste of Time…

April 20, 2009 · 1 Comment

Going home this past weekend. 3 interviews… 1 already told me that she hired someone else… the 2nd person told me in the interview that she had no open spots, and third there is no way I could work in her unit (pulmonary… 95% of the patients are in isolation).

I’m so scared about not finding a job. I sound like a broken record. I know.

Update Before Bed Time:

April 19, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Hey to my 9 readers… Just wanted to give a quick update before I bid 4/19/09 goodnight.

Seven of you out there already know…but for the rest of you… I didn’t get the job in Hershey. The HR rep emailed me on Thursday morning. Kinda sucks… I was kinda crushed. I cried a little, but I needed to move on…

I flew home for a quick trip last Thursday and had 3 job interviews in Indianapolis on Friday morning. The first two… either place I would be excited to work at. The first was General Surgery at Indiana University Hospital. The 2nd interview was Surgical Trauma at Methodist Hospital. The 3rd was on a Pulmonary floor.. and although the manager was amazing… I cannot see myself working on that floor at all… Not at all what I thought a pulmonary floor would be like, but then again I really didn’t know what to expect.

I had all these grand plans today when I got back to PA (I got home around 1ish in the afternoon)… I didn’t accomplish any of it. I sat on the couch all day and either slept or watched TV.

That’s about if for now… Hope your weekends were all grand.

Another reason I’m exciting to leave nursing school…

April 15, 2009 · 1 Comment

In six weeks I graduate. In six weeks.. there will be no more drama with classmates. I’m soooooooooooooooooo tired of drama. There is a “lemon” of a situation that happened last night..which, I think will be around until we graduate unfortunately. I’m kicking myself why I ever wanted to be in Student Government in the first place.

That’s it for today.

Sad Day for Phillies Fans

April 13, 2009 · 3 Comments

Just heard five minutes ago that Harry Kalas died. I know how all of Chicago felt when Harry Carey died. I’m sure Philadelphia is feeling the same way. I didn’t know that he had been the announcer for 38 years…  Can you imagine doing that job for so long??? It was probably one of the best jobs in the world to have.

****

In other news… I checked on my $741 bill today during break… the guy at the cashier window at the hospital called someone else and apparently it was never billed to my insurance… they still had the wrong information on file for me… I have a reprieve for now..but, for some nagging reason.. I know that I’ll still owe that amount of money.

I have a paper that is due on Wednesday… basically it’s a total BS paper… 4 pages on how I will prepare for the NCLEX… UGH.

The White Sox are in Baltimore next week. Thinking of going to the Thursday night game. Hey, Scott.. wanna go????  ;) Just kidding!!! :) Oh, and I finally wore my green White Sox shirt out in public today (the one that my friends think says “Sex” instead of “Sox”)…  I didn’t feel like I got any weird glances… other than the fact I’m in Philadelphia wearing a White Sox shirt.

Still haven’t heard from Hershey. It’s been 1 week and 1 day so far. If I don’t hear by Wednesday… I pretty much know that I didn’t get it. He said a week and a half. :(

Ta-ta for now… I need to put on my BS hat and write 4 pages of garbage.***

**Please note: the author knows that preparing for the NCLEX is a serious undertaking and will do all that it takes and pay all the money in the world (Kaplan: $375) to pass this test. But, being forced to write a 4 page paper when 2 pages will do is a little ridiculous in her book.

Nothing really to report

April 11, 2009 · 1 Comment

I can’t believe it’s been 5 days since I posted… Definitely slowing down. Toilet is still broken. I haven’t called to have it fixed because my place is such a mess and I really am a little lazy when it comes to cleaning up the public places… I swear I’ll call by Monday.

Still haven’t heard from Hershey. He SAID a week and a half…  Well, a week was yesterday.

I know Scott… don’t torment me… the White Sox are lame this year… :( Lost three straight games.

I got a nice bill from Jefferson yesterday for my echocardiogram! Do you all know how much those things cost???? $741. My stupit student insurance at Jefferson has a $2000 deductable… and that’s AFTER I’ve paid $3500 for the plan in the first place… So, my question… I’m a student… where am I going to get an add’l $2000 to pay the deductable until I can get services covered? Needless to say, I don’t have $741 lying around & to top it off.. I got the bill yesterday.. which was the 10th. The bill is due on Monday, the 13th. Yes, I’ll be making a call on Monday trying to set up a payment plan.

That’s about it…

Ta-ta for now.

Toilet is still broke… Haven’t had a chance to call on it yet.

Scared that I’m not going to hear from Hershey.

**Update on the date that I had when I was back in Chicago….  it’s not going to happen. Long distance rel’shps never work out unless they are destined to.. I *think* I was (am) more willing than him to take that on. I get this from the fact he pretty much blew me off all week when I tried to talk with him.

That’s it for now… need to get ready for the train and school.

Friday Night.

April 3, 2009 · 1 Comment

I got back home about an hour ago from Hershey. All I can say is “Thank YOU GOD” for casual clothes…  I had my dress skirt & Spanx on for almost 8 hours today and it was about time to trade them both for normal underwear & scrub bottoms. {**Side note for you guys: Spanx are ultra form fitting suck in all your fatty bits underwear}.

I got to Hershey about 1pm and my interview was scheduled for 1.30pm. I ran throughout the hospital for those extra minutes trying to locate the two people that I know who work there… both were not to be found. So, of course, it being me… I got lost trying to get back to the South Lobby of the building. Finally I found my way back & was there in time to meet the nurse recruiter. We talked for about 40 minutes regarding benefits and the orientation program. Then he led me up to the nurse manager for the Neuro Intensive Care Unit. We talked for a little over an hour. Half the time it was her and the clinical nurse educator (the RN who would be leading the orientation). I think everything went OK. I got flustered over a few questions. The nurse manager asked me if I knew when orientation started & I told her July 6th. She confirmed that date with with her calendar and kept nodding her head at my answers. After the interview she took me on a tour of the whole unit. 16 beds, built in 2006… beautiful private rooms… conference rooms, etc.

I think it ended a little after 3pm and then I went to find my friend (?) Eric. He was a fellow at UPenn when I was a patient there. He’s now an attending at Hershey. Thankfully, I found him and we talked for about 20 minutes until his next patient arrived. I think it’s been 2 or 3 years since I saw him… which, is a good time frame for us… Someone almost gasped when I told them I was interviewing at Hershey because of the Eric issue (I had a huge crush on him at one point). I figured that was 8 years ago and enough time has passed under the bridge that I’m comfortable enough just saying hi… plus, HMC employs almost 6000 people… so, I could go months without running into him.

Bottom line: if they offer me the job… I’m taking it. It’s an amazing place and they have amazing benefits…It would be a great place to learn…. The nurse recruiter said that I should hear in about 2 weeks.  UGH. That’s the scary part.

Nothing else too exciting to report… My test from the other day: 86.95%. Final grade is 86.99%… a solid “B”. Missed a “B+” by 0.01 points… crazy.

Enjoy your weekend. I’m planning on sitting on the couch tonight & watching Friday Night Lights.

Ta-ta for now.

Nursing Exam Today.

April 1, 2009 · 7 Comments

I’m still here. Big exam at 9am… didn’t really study like I thought I would. I’m getting burned out. It’s a whopping TRUE final… about everything we learned from January until now… I’m hoping my LT memory pulls it out for me… (full disclosure… I could really FAIL this exam and still get a “B” in the class…  it’s whether I really want a B+ or A-).

Chicago was good.. Was home for 4 days… just got back yesterday.

Other random thoughts…

1. My toilet is broke… the inside of the toilet thingy broke where you have the handle… so, to flush the toilet I need to lift the lid off and pull the other thingy…  Ugh… toilet water…but I think the H2O on top is clean???  Yes, I will call the maintenance department when I get back from class today.

2. Baseball season starts soon…. can’t remember when… but I know it’s soon.

3. Interview at Hershey is on Friday afternoon… WOW.

4. Eight years ago today… I got a heart transplant… pretty cool…. ;)

That’s it…  bye for now.
