Happy New Year’s Eve

You all in the East Coast will be celebrating (or sleeping) an hour earlier than I will. And, those in London…well, Happy 2009 already.

Life in Chicago these past two weeks has been eventful. Weather, house fire (not my parents… behind us on Christmas Eve), Christmas Dinner, the-one-about-the-iron (which will be talked about years to come), shopping, shopping, and more shopping.

I’ve given new meaning to the word lazy. I’ve watched the USA Network marathons the last couple of days… which means… I don’t leave the couch for 8 hours. Tomorrow is the Monk marathon…  I think I will have trouble deciding what to watch: Football or Monk????? Tough choices for the first day of 2009.

I’m all dressed up and will be heading out of the house in 20 minutes to a party downtown. I have my $25 blush on..which, I’m sure by the time I arrive in the city will be practically impossible to see. The name of the blush (which.. I think is quite funny) is “orgasm”….  Nars has a whole line of “orgasm” cosmetics…  I guess it’s quite popular…. but I digress.

The Bears bit the big one last Sunday. All they needed to do is win. So, I see the Eagles made it in… Poo.

Here’s to 2009. Here’s to my last semester of nursing school. Decisions, decisions, decisions…  I’m excited about what this year will bring. I’m glad that I went to school and took a huge leap of faith. I’m confident that my continued “leaping” will bring adventure and excitement and some craziness to my new year.

Going home..

I fly out of PHL today to Midway @ 6.45pm… I’m hoping that the flight won’t be delayed. Until then I still need to pack and clean a little bit…

Hope everybody out there has a Merry Christmas.. and Scott & Esther… Happy Hanukkah (which starts tomorrow.. right?).

I’m sure I’ll write from my parents’ house…  My main plan when I get home is to do a lot of nothing for the first couple of days.

I’m sitting here eating my Godiva Dark Chocolate Almonds I received as a present from a classmate basically because I have no other food in the house. Wait.. scratch that… I’m too lazy to actually cook something that involves a stove top today.

Final Grades for the semester:

Pharmacology 3: B

Pediatrics: B+

Microbiology Lab: A-

Microbiology Lecture: A

Not too bad.. I’m kicking myself for getting a “B” in Pharmacology. Oh well, thank goodness for drug guides at nurses stations.

I’m supposed to be going into the city tonight to see the display at Macy’s with some friends of mine and their kids.. We will see if that still happens because of the weather.

That’s about it for now.. I really need to go wash the dishes and make some proper food.. instead of eating candy.

semester will be finishd in approximately 6 hours.

yea me.

and how will i celebrate??????????????????? i will sleep first. then shop. and then, quite possibly, have a glass of wine (red, of course).

One More Day.

Tomorrow is my last exam. Microbiology. Today’s exams went ok… The peds was harder than I expected… tricky really. Those grades will not be up until Friday. The HESI test I took I passed. The HESI is a *practice* test that is supposed to predict our success on the NCLEX (Nursing Licence Exam). To pass the HESI we need to get at least an 850… This is our 4th HESI and I did not pass the first three (821, 749, 624). I’m ok with that because previous classes have said that it has no bearing with whether you will pass the NCLEX on the first try….  I know people who have failed EVERY one of them and have passed NCLEX on the first try… anyway, that’s besides the point. I passed today. I got a 921 on the Pediatric HESI… Totally excited about that…

After the test was over I walked around the city for a bit… Went to the Comcast Center to see their Christmas display on the gigantic TV screen in their lobby. It’s really amazing… Takes up the whole wall. Then went to lunch in their basement at DiBruno (sp?) Brothers. Had chicken curry salad & got curry sauce on my sweater.

Nothing else exciting to write about. I’m off to study for tomorow’s exam.

A big shout out to SEPTA

For people not from here (ie.. Philadelphia)…. SEPTA is the amazing regional transportation system that we have. I am so thankful to be able to walk out my door and jump on the train and get to Center City in a reasonable amount of time. It’s times like this morning that I love knowing that SEPTA is there to get me to my destination…. albeit 30 minutes late without explanation which made me late for my final exam in pharmacology.

Isn’t there somewhere where I can ask for a refund for my ticket when the train is that late??????  Yes, I planned ahead and decided to take the train that would get me into the city at 8.26…PLENTY of time for a leisurely stroll down 10th Street to the building where my exam was being  held. Well, 7.47am went… 8am went by… finally, the train came at 8.23am this morning. Thank goodness there are intelligent people in the SEPTA system and ran the train express from Morton because frankly the train wouldn’t hold any more people…  I got to Market East at 8.53… and RAN to my exam…  got there at 9.01. So, I guess I wasn’t all that late…but my nerves were totally fried by that point.

Tomorrow my exam is at 8am… I’m taking the first train into the city at 5.30… just to be safe (and, yes… I’ll be up… I got up at 4am this morning).

One down… 3 more to go.

Blah.

I’m so tired of studying..

Been up since 6am… still in PJs (it’s almost 4pm now). I figured I didn’t have to go anywhere today… so why get dressed.

Tomorrow is my last pharmacology test. I can’t believe it.

I need to get motivated and I definitely have to stop eating all the chocolate bon-bons that I bought as Christmas presents. Aren’t I selfish? I’m eating all the chocolate myself.

Still alive…

& still studying….  will be until Friday morning when it’s all over for the semester. Unfortunately, one of my crazy study habits is to recopy all my powerpoint lectures by hand… writing them out helps me memorize…  well, I just finished my peds lectures for the exam on Wednesday…. 25 pages on both sides handwritten!!!!!!!!!!!!!  UGH.  Now it’s Pharm the rest of tonight & all of tomorrow. Pharm test is 9am on Tuesday morning.

Nothing else too exciting to write about. The book is shut on the guy from before Thanksgiving. I texted him a message saying “hey, i’m assuming that you do not want to go to the movies since I haven’t heard from you. It was nice meeting you.” That’s all I said. Anyway, yes, I would rather have a guy tell me that he doesn’t want to date me again rather than say “Hey, Yes… I’ll DEFINITELY call you… We’ll go to a movie.. we’ll be in touch.”  & then do the exact opposite… Unfortunately, those are the type of guys I’ve been meeting lately. For lack of a better term: liars.

Ok.. that was harsh. But you know what, if that what dating is all about… I don’t want any part of it. Yes, I know I want a relationship… Yes, I know I cry over sappy Christmas commercials & watch all the romantic Christmas movies on Lifetime…  but, if people can’t be fundamentally honest with each other why even try? I *thought* Michael was the one. I hoped he was. He turned out to be just like the guy from above… although he kept it hidden for a little longer.

I’m not even a great catch anyways… I’m in debt, have medical issues, not gorgeous thin, can’t have children, & want an engagement ring that costs $10K.

Blah… back to studying.

***update @ 10.12 this morning…  mighty drug company…. is shipping my drugs for free.. it just took some more yelling, but thankfully, no cursing this time.
