Pharmacology sucks…

October 30, 2007 · 2 Comments

***please be advised that this declaration does not mean that the author of this blog thinks that pharmacology is not important in the formation of nursing education. she just wants to relieve some stress from studying aforementioned subject. plus she has now caught a cold and her butt still hurts.

***again, the author truly DOES understand how important pharmacology is. she knows the worth of it. she actually finds it very interesting. she likes studying it. but at this exact moment in time… she’s not liking it that much.

that’s all. go back to your dinner.

My Sunday evening…

October 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Game 4 of the World Series just started. Boston hit a lead off double. It’s been hard for me to watch.. I really wanted Colorado to win at least 1 game…

I’ve been studying pharmacology all day today… well, off and on for most of the day… It’s so much memorization… it’s crazy…but at the same time… v. interesting.

THE wedding was yesterday. Highlights:
1. During preparation of the church in the morning… I was putting the candles in the candlelabras (sp?)… Well, I was standing on the pew… I slipped trying to step off the pew and fell on the HARD wood arm rest… Basically, I bruised my butt. BIG TIME. It hurts to sit.
2. The organist… I guess it was his first wedding and he didn’t know when to take his cues… He played the same song over and over and over and over again… It actually was kinda funny.
3. Everybody did great. The ring bearer didn’t cry… the flower girl was beautiful…
4. The reception. Hands down… the BEST reception food I’ve ever had. Two amazing crab cakes… all crab… no filler.
5. Crazy games at the reception. The bride’s mother had all these Russian games to play. It was funny.
6. Me getting home in one piece… I was so, so, so, tired (I skipped church this morning to sleep in).

Tomorrow I’m in the ER all day. It’s another 4.30am wake up call. So, I’ll bid adieu for now… must get some more work done.

More tests…

October 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Today was the A&P lab midterm. I did fine until it came to identify the epithealeal (sp? it’s too late at night for me to care if I spelled it right) cells… (ie… simple squamous, stratified squamous, pseudostratified columnar, etc). Well, there were 6 to identify. I think I might (& that’s a BIG might) have got 1 right.

It sounds like Boston just scored another run in Game 1 of the WS. UGH. I want to turn something else on…but I have a math test tomorrow… and baseball is something I can basically tune out w/o paying all that much attention… if it was a TV show and/or a movie… I would have to watch.

This weekend is all full w/ wedding stuff. I think this will be the last wedding I attend for awhile. I just can’t handle my emotions of my jealousy that it’s not me getting married.

Of all things… my mom… who prays weekly (so she says) for my husband… asked about a one Dr. Anziska. For my 7 readers who have been with me for a long time… Dr. Anziska was rotating through when I was in the hospital 6 years ago. He’s somewhere in NYC I presume doing doctorly things. Anyway, my mom really like him. I really liked him. His picture is still on my refrigerator door… which, sometimes I think is odd…

… sometimes I wonder if my picture is on anyone’s refrigerator door… ok… I don’t wonder all that much…but sometimes.

Ok… I’m going.. really, I am… I have to get this crazy math thing… It’s not crazy..b/c it’s super important. Decimals can kill patients. And, I’m sooo not ready to deal with that yet.

Dress Shopping.

October 22, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Is something that I hate. Loathe? Dispise? Shopping for dresses has never been easy for me. But then again, I’m sure most women (unless you are a supermodel) find that dress shopping isn’t their favorite thing in the world… We got finished with school extra early today (1.15) so, I headed off to Macy’s in Center City…

This store didn’t have the dress that I liked at my local Macy’s.. oh well.. they did have a bigger selection… so, at least I THOUGHT I would be able to find something else… I took 7 dresses into the room with me… only one fit. I bought it. I’m not happy with it… but I’m totally not unhappy either. It’s a black velvet knee length dress. It’s a sleeveless v-neck… and it sorta “swooshes” when you turn around in it (ala… Julla Roberts in Runaway Bride… you know.. that sound her one wedding dress made). I really wanted to find a colorful dress…b/c every dress I buy is black. I look good in black..but it does get boring after awhile. Oh well… now I can concentrate on other things… like buying the guestbook & money basket for the reception.

In other news:
1. V. sad the Cleveland Indians lost.
2. Scored a 70 on a quiz today… not very happy about that. But… I have a new attitude.. :O) “Lose some battles.. win the war.” :O)
3. Tomorrow is a 4.30am wake up call. Yippy. Can’t wait. Super excited! (…she said sarcastically!)
4. I’m getting a sore throat.. this can’t be good.
5. I have found time to read a book not about medicine. I’m not sure how..but I am.. It’s a chick lit book & the name TOTALLY escapes me now.

That’s about it for now.

Lazy Weekend…

October 21, 2007 · 1 Comment

It’s early Sunday evening (5.09pm) and I haven’t opened a book at all. I’m a bad, bad student (I mean this in a v.v. sarcastic way). I don’t have anything overly pressing this coming week; (you know… I never know if I use semi-colons correctly….) so I decided to take a break.

After church today I went to try on some dresses for the wedding next week. Nothing fit. I hate when that happens. I found a very pretty velvet one that I loved… I’m hoping the Macy’s in the city will have it one size larger. It would be a great dress to wear to a multitude of winter events… so, I would be willing to bite the $150 bullet on this one.

And to WHOEVER controls the weather up there… please send us some Fall temps. I’m sick of this 80 degree stuff. UGH.

Pharmacology: 84. Class average was 81…
Mgt of Acute and Chronic Patient: 98… class average was 84 (or was it 81).

Today’s test wasn’t as hard as yesterdays IMO. I knew I didn’t do great on the pharm test. All the questions were out of left field for me.

I went to lunch today w/ J. We went to this diner on 10th & Spruce because all week I’ve been craving a grilled cheese w/ tomato. Our waitress came up to us to take our order and I saw that she had this calculator. It is the same was as the “official” Jefferson nursing calculator: small & cheap. Anyway, I said “hey.. it’s our official nursing calculator.” She then told us this story of how she used to be in nursing school back on Long Island… completed a year.. and then her mom got sick and she had to come back home. She tried to go back to school but none of her credits would transfer and she couldn’t afford to go back.

Anyway, a little later I was talking about how I thought I failed the Pharm test… and J. said something… he said “you want to win the war… you might lose some battles… our waitress she won some battles… but didn’t win the war..” (or something to that effect). So… my take… I need to stop worrying about this individual tests… I am literally getting myself sick over them.

J. suggested I go onto match.com to meet someone. I told him that I was a little jealous of how easy it was for him (and others in general) to meet people of the opposite sex. Blah, blah, blah… nothing new here.

That’s about it from here. I’m going to go sit on the couch & catch up on some Grey’s Anatomy.

Ta-ta for now. Have a good weekend folks.

4. Went to class.

7. Took the bus from Jeff back to Penn.
8. Went to my appt to interview a nurse for my paper.
9. She didn’t show up.
10. Took the train back home.
11. Booked my B&B room in Seattle for early March 2008.
12. Ordered a new school bag at LL Bean.
13. Ate some Cracker Jack.
14. Drank too much Diet Coke (24 ounces all together today)

That’s it. Now, I will eat dinner and study for my 3rd Pharmacology test for tomorrow.
