Wait… it can’t be true… can it?

The White Sox won 4 in a row.

(yes… it was against the lowly Tampa Bay Devil Rays…but still)

Thanks Ashlie, Esther, and Sues!!  At least I know I have 3  readers out there.

And this goes in the “things-I-will-do-for-my-readers” category… My next film on my queue is “The Best Years of Our Lives”  (right…that’s correct?).  The  Oscar Winner for Best Picture in 1946.  Sues said I should watch it… so, I’m going to watch it.. even though I hate (ok…strong word).. loathe (still too strong)… dislike (ok… I’m going with “dislike”) old movies… I know I should watch more of them… blah, blah, blah…

Anyway…  the movie should be on it’s way sometime next week.  I’ll report back.

Nothing else of value to say today.  Hmmm..maybe that’s a good thing.

Enjoy your weekend folks.  It looks like a good one in the Northeast.

i’m not sure why i miss him & other thoughts

June 28, 2007 · Leave a Comment

yea.  i miss J.  he’s still in seattle.  he comes back on the 4th and then flies to canada on the 5th.  he starts his job here at the hospital on the 9th.

i miss bantering with him.

i’m having second thoughts about nursing school.  i’m not sure why.  it’s just hit me in the last few days.  i’m really scared.  i’m intelligent, motivated, don’t freak out at the site of brains, etc…

but can i do this?  i think i can.  i want to.

is it still ok to be freaked out?

i just ordered a stethoscope.  i will soon own a stethoscope.  i don’t know how to use one.  but i will soon be an owner of a Litman Classic S.E. with hunter green tubing (I had the choice of 10 different colors… I should have picked orange.  but I’m boring)

ok.. enough.

in other news… the White Sox have won 3 in a row…  i think that’s a record this season!

bye.  for now.  smile… it’s almost friday.

My day off…

June 25, 2007 · 1 Comment

I decided to not go to Washington, DC as originally planned. The train ticket was almost $100…which I thought was way too much to pay for a one day trip… I thought about driving down there…but driving all that way really didn’t interest me that much. So, instead of heading south down 95… I took the train north. To NYC.

The last time I was in New York was the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This time the crowds were a little more manageable even for a city girl like myself. I really had no agenda to my day. I left home this morning and after changing trains 2x I got Penn Station at 10.35am.

My first stop was the American Museum of Natural History. Ok. Don’t shoot me. I don’t like natural history museums all that much. Never have… I have always disliked Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History.. so, I’m not sure why I thought I would like NYC’s better. I didn’t. I’m completely bored by it. The one exhibit I did like was on gold (aptly titled “Gold”). It wasn’t that big of an exhibit though… so, I was done reading everything in about 25 minutes??? I did force myself to look at some of the stuffed animals and the Indian artifacts…but after 90 minutes… I was done.

So… the museum is at 79th & Central Park West. I decided to walk back to Penn Station–34th Street– (I took the subway up to the museum)… it was such a nice day today. I just like walking and people watching… I stopped at a food cart across the street from Radio City Music Hall for a falafal (spelling)… Well, more like I was screamed at “What do ya want???” So, I stopped and picked the first thing I saw on the menu… I have to admit the guy making my lunch was extremely handsome and gave me some type of thing wrapped in grape leaves for free (it had rice inside). He couldn’t believe that I came to NYC just for the day to walk around…

After lunch and some more people watching I kept walking and walking and walking… Finally I stopped in the ubiquitous Ann Taylor Loft to buy a new t-shirt because the one I was wearing was completely sopped with sweat (yes.. my 9 readers… I sweat… like a pig) & I was totally uncomfortable.

And then I walked some more… and finally I took the train home. Ahhh.. home. All in all… it was a great day.

In other news…
It seems that the White Sox are going to be having a sale.. does anyone want some slightly bruised pictures, catchers, 1st basemen? Ahh… it’s been a long time since the Sox have been basement dwellers… I better get used to it for the next couple of years.

That’s it for now…

Stealing this idea from someone else’s blog..

June 22, 2007 · 1 Comment

The American Film Institute published its list of the 100 top movies the other day.  The ones that I have watched are the following:

Schindler’s List (#8)

The Wizard of Oz (#10)

Star Wars (#13)

It’s A Wonderful Life (#20)

The Grapes of Wrath (#23)

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (#24)

To Kill A Mockingbird (#25)

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (#26)

One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest (#33)

Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs (#34)

The Sound of Music (#40)

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (#50)

M*A*S*H (#54)

Jaws (#56)

Rocky (#57)

Raiders of the Lost Ark (#66)

Tootsie (#69)

Saving Private Ryan (#71)

The Shawshank Redemption (#72)

The Silence of the Lambs (#74)

Forrest Gump (#76)

Titanic (#83)

Platoon (#86)

12 Angry Men (87)

The Sixth Sense (#89)

Toy Story (#99)

I’m feeling very inadequate that I have still never watched Citizen Kane or any of the other TRULY great movies…  I guess watching Bridget Jones Diary 100x doesn’t count.

In other more serious news… I had something I told someone in confidence thrown back in my face last night.  It wasn’t fun nor pretty nor impressive.  Using my favorite theological word… it was just plain “yucky.”

Enjoy your weekend.  Mine is 3 days this time around.

Things I miss…

June 18, 2007 · Leave a Comment

I miss the White Sox winning ball games..

I miss Graeter’s ice cream (I will be able to partake in 2 months and 14 days!)

I miss White Castle hamburgers

I miss Bob Burke (we parted ways June 1997… haven’t talked to him since)… the reason why I don’t really know how to have guy friends…  Bob Burke.  He was the best guy friend a person could have…  and I can’t even remember what we fought about.  He lives in San Fran now.

I miss my Holly Hobbie doll.  Haven’t seen her since 1981.  I think I left her at my Uncle’s house…

I miss reading the Chicago Tribune everyday.  I read it online…but it’s not the same.  And ANYONE who says reading the Internet is the same thing… it’s sooooooo not.

I miss Wagner’s ribs from po-dunk Indiana.  It’s a little shack..  the ribs are amazing.

That’s it for now.

Workplace funny…

June 14, 2007 · 3 Comments

I just met with a new student and her parent.  Everything was going great.  Then I farted.  It was a silent fart…but boy… did it smell.

Don’t you just love how our body works?

Enjoy the rest of your day.

(and…  I think I have given up hope on the White Sox this season.  It’s beyond desparate… it’s beyond repair… it’s hopeless…  I want Aaron Rowand back—no offense to Jim Thome… who I think is grand)

Bruised just a little (both physically & emotionally)

June 11, 2007 · 1 Comment

Bruised physically…  I helped some friends move into their new house yesterday…  found some bruises this morning that weren’t there the other day.  It was a lot of work…but it went by pretty fast.  Jamie gave me a complement and said that “he never saw me do so much manual labor and he was impressed.”  Wait…  I think that was a complement…

Bruised emotionally.  J. didn’t have any time (or he didn’t make any time?) to hang out with me this weekend before he left for a month.  I’m a little hurt.  He said that we would hang out.  Or maybe I heard him wrong.  I’m realizing that everything that I’m feeling… it’s just a crush and he sooooooooo doesn’t feel the same way.  Don’t worry… I get over these things pretty quickly.

Baseball update: Tonight going to the Phillies vs White Sox..  I’m praying for no more rain.  Buerle won his 100th game yesterday.  Yippy.

Personal Observation…

June 7, 2007 · 1 Comment

And, yes… it has to deal w/ J.  I’ve gotten into this comfortable friendship with him.  And it’s nice.

He got back from Boston on Tuesday and wrote me an email yesterday morning to say that he was back.  At graduation last week he said before he left for Seattle we would go out for that beer.  Which, truth be told, I have been looking forward to seeing him before he leaves for almost a month.

Last year at this time I could have cared less about not seeing him for a week, a month, a year (well.. maybe a year… but you get the picture).  Now, it’s a little different…

Anyway, he emailed me this morning and I wrote back and said “hey.. do you have time this weekend?”  And then I thought about it… and I wrote back again “wait… forget it…  you’re busy… I’ll just talk to you when you get back from your trips” … and then I wrote again “sorry… I’m being weird…  Just didn’t want to interfer w/ your schedule because I know you’re busy.”

When I’m with him… I sometimes feel like he’s the popular boy from h.s. that I never got to spend time with and why would he make time for me.  I know… I know… I know…  please don’t tell me how wonderful and special and whatnot I am… I know this .. I really do… but at the same time… I sometimes feel still like that girl from h.s. who longed to be noticed by the popular guys…  and I know that J. would have been one of those guys.

I really think this is a period of growth for me.  I’m glad he’s the type of guy to not immediately give up on me because of my quirks….b/c honestly…  I’ve been quirky enough for him to just say “screw it.”

Ok… enough now.
