A picture from NYC
November 28, 2006 · 3 Comments

This is Hena, Sammie, & I. This is right after we got kicked out of Brookstone for sitting in the massage chairs for too long.
Nothing else too exciting to report… It’s a Tuesday. Just your run-of-the-mill Tuesday.
I think there is crab stuffed salmon in the cafe today… That’s a good thing.
Enjoy your day.

Serendipity

“A fortunate accident”
I had the lovely opportunity to travel to NYC yesterday to spend the day pushing and shoving… all to see the Macy window displays and to eat overpriced food at the Olive Garden in Times Square. (I know… I’m in NYC.. the place for any type of food and we settle for the Olive Garden! My disclaimers… we were really, really hungry and it didn’t have a long wait.).
Actually, the visit this time had to be the best in a long time. We really had no agenda and didn’t do anything overly spectacular. We walked and walked and walked and walked and walked. We took lots of pictures. We sat in those overpriced massage chairs at Brookstone until the rude salesperson kicked us out (for what??? An actual customer who was buying the aforementioned overpriced massage chair!). We went to St Patrick’s Cathedral. We sat in awe of how beautiful an American building can actually be (but we didn’t light an overpriced “remembrance candle” for a $2 donation). We walked up Lexington, then down Park Avenue, then did a U-turn and did it all again. We found Dylan’s Candy Bar… only made famous because it belongs to the daughter of Ralph Lauren. There we could have bought an overpriced Pez dispenser covered in Swarski crystals (for the 5 people who are reading this: that’s what I want this Christmas… a Pez dispenser… any one will do… do not worry… I will take the one without the crystals). Finally, around 4pm we found what we were looking for: Serendipity. Home of the world famous (??) frozen hot chocolate. We were so excited about finding this NYC institution we didn’t mind putting our name on the list and coming back in 3 hours. So, we walked around some more. Passed Dylan’s Candy Bar another time (this time… we were smart enough NOT to go inside). We haggled with a street vendor for a cool leather looking tote bag. He wanted $35 (isn’t that too much for even a street vendor???).. H offered him $5 (which Sam & I thought was a little too low)… The nice Nigerian’s response to H’s offer: “Have a nice evening.” Finally, around 6ish (after a stop at the Borders on 57th & Park Avenue) we were able to join the special people in the special line to be ushered into that special place called Serendipity. Call me a fool or what you will… but it lived up to its hype. It was a fun place to hang out… drinking/slurping frozen hot chocolate, eating amazing apple pie, and talking the evening away.
So… my 6 readers.. here is how serendipity came into play for me. We took the PATH back to Jersey City where I had parked my car… so, as I was fishing to the bottom of my bag trying to find me car keys (which, I was getting a little frantic because I couldn’t find them)… I pulled out an earring and it fell to the ground… It wasn’t any old earring…but one from the set that I was missing… the ones that I wrote about a few weeks ago. Yes, I finally found them in a little used handbag…
All in all it was a great day.
Now.. it’s off to watch the Bears vs Pats (of course, it’s not playing in my area).
Ta-ta… Happy almost Monday.

Black Friday…
November 24, 2006 · 2 Comments
I got sucked into that great American Institution this morning: Black Friday. I sat yesterday morning watching the Macy’s Parade and looking at all the glossy ads from the newspaper & just knew that I had to go shopping this morning (which meant VERY early, since I’m working today also)…. So, I did get up early, caught an early train with the 4 other people lame enough to work on the day after Thanksgiving & got to Macy’s around 7.30 this morning.
Did I need anything in particular? Nope.
Do I need to buy any more Christmas presents? Yes, but none involve a stop at Macy’s.
Did I get anything this morning? Of course. Low black leather boots.
On another note.. Thanksgiving itself was good. Didn’t gorge, watched some decent football, took a short nap, and enjoyed the company of great friends.
Enjoy your Friday.

I have a few minutes…

Before I run off to my lunch meeting. Truth be told, the only thing I get out of these meetings is the free lunch. And it’s a good one… grilled chicken breast on a bed of baby spinach. V.V. good. (if you like that sorta thing).
My baby blanket is back on track. It’s actually starting to look like something.. right now it’s the size of a small washcloth. Thank you Kate! I feel like I’m actually learning a usable skill here…
I never did get to finish my post from the other day when I was at the hospital. It was crazy… as soon as I ordered my Kung Pao Chicken… I got paged. I was with the same family for almost 5 hours… then I went to bed, only to get paged again at 1.30am. Came back. Went to bed… got paged again at 3.30am. Crazy evening on those streets of Philadelphia.
Until later.

I want to make a baby blanket for my friend, S. Desai…him and his wife are expecting their first baby in January. Well, last night was my first lesson. I thought I had it.
Today I tried to continue during my lunch hour.
Apparently, I don’t have it quite yet.
It’s quite hard. And frusterating.
That’s it. only 2 hours until the day is over.
Ta-ta.

Just another Monday…
November 13, 2006 · Leave a Comment
Another rainy Monday. It’s 10am and I’m sitting here in my office getting ready to tackle the day. Our university software is getting a major upgrade…so, therefore it’s down for the next two weeks as they do whatever it is that IT people do. I’m hoping it works this time…because last time… the whole process bombed big time.
Random tidbits…
–worked on Saturday…wasn’t a bad day. it was an open house for new students… i love new college students.. they are so wide eyed & basically clueless…
–bought a new pair of earrings to replace the ones i can’t find. not the best economical move… but i like them.. & they didn’t break the bank… hopefully i won’t lose them anytime soon.
— stayed out late on saturday evening. until almost midnight… first time in a long time… i actually went to a bar and had a beer. what is the world coming to??? i’m such a lush.
–watched football on sunday and had a great rib dinner. yes, jamie… i liked the green stuff. Bears won 38-20. 8-1.
—i have a $1.50 in my wallet now. i’m trying to figure out what to get for lunch… My bank’s ATM is 4 blocks away… too far to walk in the rain…. I think it will be soup for me today.
–haven’t seen the cute resident in 2 weeks. I have since learned that he knows that I think he’s cute. I’m mortified. It’s so high school.
Ok.. that’s about it for now.
