Real Life (or…something close to it)

Sometimes… you just need to laugh at yourself

So… I leave work by 4.45pm… I walk to Market East. I will catch the R3 “Limited Express” to Media/Elwyn. I get on a train that I THINK says “R3 Express to Elywn” (at least in my sleep deprived stupor… this is what it said). In reality, the sign said “R7/Trenton”…. OK. Trenton and Media..NOT close together. Not even a little. I only realize my mistake when we left 30th Street Station and the buildings are looking more and more not familiar.

20 minutes later… I have gotten off at Torresdale. The ONLY thing I know about Torresdale is that it’s in North Philly & Jefferson Health System has a hospital there. Woudln’t you know it? I wasn’t the only sorry soul to do this. There were 3 other people in various stages of “What the heck did I just do?” The next train back to Philly isn’t until 6.16pm… We had about 40 minutes to wait. I befriended a MBA student from Drexel who also got on the wrong train. We talked about how stupid this made us feel… She was sweet enough to go get us some iced tea as we waited.

6.16pm.. the train is back… this time going in the right direction… towards Philadelphia. We get on this train and then it stops.. and goes. and stops. and goes… We don’t pull into 30th Street until a hour later. My new friend has missed her connecting train. I, on the other hand, have about 1/2 hour wait. Thank goodness I brought my book. My own 7.59 train turned out to be late. It didn’t come until 8.20. I get home right before 9pm.

About 3 hours later than I should have gotten home tonight. UGH. I can’t believe that I took the wrong train home. Seriously, that has NEVER happened before.

Guess there’s a first time for everything.

Now. I. Will. Eat. Ice. Cream.

(and forget about this crazy day).

ps.. the White Sox are winning…for now.
