The world of Sudoku…

Ahh…. I have been hooked. In case you haven’t heard.. Sudoku is the new game craze that has taken over Japan and Europe… It has finally arrived here in the States. Sudoku was actually invented by an American…but those lovely British caught on first. Sudoku in Japanese means “single number”… It’s basically a crossword puzzle w/ numbers. There is a 3 x 3 grid. And in each box there are 9 spaces. For a total of 81 little boxes. Some of the numbers are completed already for you. The object of the puzzle is to have the numbers 1-9 in each box of 9… and then have 1-9 in each row and in each column without repeating a number. It’s a lot easier than it sounds. The puzzles are graded from “very easy” to “very difficult.” Currently, I am working on a “hard” puzzle from the Chicago Sun Times. I started this puzzle yesterday after work.. and have erased all my work twice (I think I’ve spend probably a total of 2.5 hours working on this thing). I am now going to cheat and look at the answer key online to fill in one of the boxes… maybe that will help me. You all should try it. It’s fun. It’s addicting. It’s a work out for your brain.

Little ones..

My friends just had a baby. It was a boy. As a proud papa should, he posted a few pictures on his blog…. I can’t stop staring at one of the pictures. He is so tiny and new. And beautiful. And sweet. And precious. Anyway, it just got me thinking to how much I love babies. They are so full of promise. Anyway, I’m very happy for this family. Babies… exciting stuff.

In other news…
1. The White Sox are back to their losing ways… Lost to Minnesota 1-0. We are doomed. They will win the Central Division..but only by 2 games (that’s my prediction anyway).
2. Today was a hard day at work…. only will get worse. The phones, the walk-ins, the questions… All in a days work… but it’s still hard sometimes.
3. Discovered a new place for lunch: Saladworks. It’s been there for a bit…but I never ventured in…. had a good salad… it should make up for the package of Swedish Fish that I snacked on throughout the day.

God Save the Queen!!!

London here I come. Can’t believe I’m going. I was talking to my Aunt this weekend and she spends a considerable amount of time in Britain. I told her that I was interested in going sometime soon. She said that I might as well do it now because it isn’t going to get any cheaper (currently the exchange rate sucks…. $1.00 = 1/2 of a British Pound.. OUCH). So, I thought about it. I’m going. I leave September 16th on a British Airways flight from Philadelphia to London’s Heathrow Airport.

In other news…
1. The White Sox couldn’t catch a break against the Boston Red Sox this weekend… lost the first 2 games… and then they were winning the third… but it got called due to rain. Bummer.
2. Saw “March of the Penquins” yesterday afternoon. Wow. Very interesing story. Be VERY GLAD that you’re not a penquin.
3. Had a wonderful dinner on Saturday evening… thank you Carl & Mary Beth… also experienced Cold Stone Creamery for the first time. Wonderful stuff that ice cream.

On the Road Again…

Recently, in the last few weeks I’ve been doing some traveling for my job. Mostly in state…but to parts of Pennsylvania that I have never been to. Today that place is Danville, PA. On a map, Danville seems to be a straight shot north of Harrisburg. It’s approx 150 miles from Philadelphia. Up the Northeast Extension and then onto I80 west. Definitely, small town americana. I’ve heard people from Danville say that it is “God’s Country” here.. and that is totally true. It’s beautiful here. Mountains, trees, lots of green open spaces…. so, what have I encountered so far in my small town…

1. a Panera Bread for my dinner!!! Jamie… it’s clean and they serve a pizza like object that looked good…
2. Columbia Mall… if there could be a mall worse than Granite Run mall… I have found it! I would hate to be a teenager here… you really can’t stroll a mall that’s only 50 yards long.
3. Dairy Queen server w/ the mohawk. He showed me that you can indeed make a 2 foot tall vanilla soft serve w/o it falling over. Who would have thought?

One final note… you know how you get older you start saying things that your parents say…. my personal favorite is something my dad ALWAYS said to me when I was little…. “well, it’s better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!” So, I have started to say this more than normal… I have picked up another phrase…. I have NO idea where I got it from…. Can you all help? Here’s the phrase: “Let me know how that works out for you…ok?” I said to 2 co-workers yesterday…. I know it’s not my phrase… can’t figure out who it belongs to. (yes… I had a lot to think about on my way to Danville today).

Thunder…

Crap… it’s thundering out right now… which means rain is on the way. This would be a bad situation…except I brought an umbrella to work today.

In other news: Please read the August 7th post at http://meetdorans.blogspot.com. Thankfully, little Joseph doesn’t have a crush on me. Or… maybe I should be flattered that a 3yr old thinks I’m hot? I think not.

White Sox against Yankees tonight. May the best team win.

Peter Jennings dying. I cried today when I found out. He was basically an icon that I grew up with. My family always watched ABC News. He was usually who I had my dinner with. He will be missed.
