Live from Columbus….

I’m here at my friend Gina Cooper’s house in Columbus, Ohio. Today is Gina’s baby shower. There is an unexpected guest… it’s her baby!!! Jenna Nicole was born on January 20th… six weeks early. I’m very glad that I’ll get to see her while I am out here.

It’s been great seeing old friends. It’s been a happy weekend.

Enjoy your Sunday.

Ugh….

I ate a whole box of Girl Scout Samoa cookies last night. A WHOLE BOX!!!!!

The devil made me do it. I swear. It’s a conspiracy… There is an addicitive quality regarding Girl Scout Samoas… You can never eat just one cookie. NEVER. I tried to eat only 2… and before I knew it… I ate 5. And then 10. And then 15.

I ate the whole darn box in 10 minutes.

Kinda piggy, really.

Enjoy your Thursday.

ONE.

Team. City. Dream.

When I saw that for the first time on Sunday afternoon I got a little misty-eyed. Yes, it’s true. The Philadelphia Eagles are finally going to the Superbowl. I’m not an Eagles fan. Never have been. Never will be. You can take me out of Chicago…but the Chicago-ness will NEVER be taken out of me nor my love for the Bears or White Sox… but I digress. Anyway, winning the “big game” can bring together a city even more than a huge snow storm. Philadelphia seems a little bit happier today…

Sports in general have way of doing that to people. Teamwork. Togetherness. Hard work..loyalty. The fans have always been the “12th Man” for the Eagles…. and they will continue to be so.

Anyway, this will be the first & the LAST time you hear me say “Go Eagles.” You deserve your shot for the brass ring.

Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow…

Although the weather outside is frightful, inside it’s soo delightful, and since there’s no place to go… Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!!!

Unfortunately, life is not always a song. And people do have places to go when indeed it is frightful outside. Tonight is my night on duty at the hospital. Originally I had next Saturday night (1/29) but since I am going to Ohio, I switched to this weekend. When the snow started coming down in buckets at 9.30 this morning, I decided that I would take the train into the city instead of driving. Well, the trains come only once an hour on the weekends… So, I needed to take the 3.25 train which would get me into the city by 4 and then I would have 45 minutes to fool around until I needed to be at the hospital. Well, I got all packed for my overnight & all bundled up in my boots, long wool coat, my favorite hat (which I FINALLY found… still in my suitcase… where I packed it back in December), and my newest winter acquistion… my red scarf from Ireland. Well, thank God I had that scarf & my hat…. I got to the station at 3.10… well, 3.25 came and went … then so did 4.25…. the 3.25 train didn’t actually show up until 4.40pm. I was a frozen little popsicle by that time… and I’ve NEVER been so happy to see a SEPTA train. I’ve been inside the hospital now since 5.30 and I’m still trying to get warm.

The woman who was on before me said that it was a pretty quiet day. Hopefully, the evening will be the same.

Nothing else too exciting to report. My hands are still cold…unfortunately, I didn’t wear my heavy gloves… just my cheap cashmere ones….don’t know what I was thinking when I made that decision.

Enjoy the weather. It’s actually quite pretty outside. Snow makes me happy.

The business of flying the friendly skies….

Is just sooo darn confusing…So, I want to fly to Columbus. On this past Monday (TWO DAYS AGO), I check US Airways for a flight to Columbus. They were offering a “48 Hour Special” for $148 roundtrip. Sounds good. $148 to me is an outfit from Ann Taylor…so I think about it… don’t automatically book it because I’m not sure if I’m getting the time off from work. Monday afternoon I’m granted the time off.

Well, Tuesday was sooo busy at work I forget to book the flight. I get to work this morning, I check the exact same flight on US Airways. Guess what the price is now!!!!! $950 rountrip. Hmmm.. I don’t think so. At this point I resigned myself to driving. I did check Southwest from Baltimore and they had a flight for $170 roundtrip…but I really didn’t feel like driving to Baltimore.

So… as a last ditch effort I went to expedia.com… I’ve used this site a few times…. but actually more for hotel rooms than for airline reservations. So, I type in my info and about 30 seconds later I have a roundtrip for $153.40!!! The VERY interesting thing is the flight is on American Airlines…but is being completed by US Airways. So… long story short…. The same flight that is $950 on the US Airways website is only $153.40 on the American Airlines website…but I’ll be flying on a US Airways plane. Did you get that? No, neither did I.

No wonder the airline industry is tanking.

In other news… Jamie need not worry about my emotional state concerning my job. I work with students & parents ALL day long. Yesterday was a pissy day. End of story. American Idol was pretty painful to listen to last night. Actually muted some of it. I got a real invitation to W’s inauguration tomorrow in Washington (but in VERY FINE print the invitation reminds me it will not get me into the famous parties!!). I wrote in my Moleskin. That felt good. I ate a Godiva Chocolate Bar… that was really good.

Have a nice and warm January 19th!

It’s snowing in my office…

I have one of those manual 3 hole puncher thingamajigs in my office so I can punch holes in various things… well, I just went to pick it up from it’s usually resting place (my floor)… and the bottom fell off… sending hundreds of white round holes all over my floor…. I’m hoping I can get a vacuum in here sometime today… it looks REALLY bad…. basically it looks like I’m a slob…which, I’m not… I’m just a tad disorganized at times…

Nothing else too exciting to report… Monday flew by here at work… Tuesday dragged, dragged, & dragged… to top it off, most of the students were pretty snotty. I’m hoping today is more like Monday and that I actually get out in time (but that still doesn’t mean I leave the hospital campus anytime soon… it’s Wednesday.. so, I’m here until at least 7pm..maybe later).

I’m almost through the first 4 hours of this season’s “24″… I have to say… it’s totally intense. I love the character of Jack Bauer… such a wounded warrior… or reluctant hero. Kiefer is definitely the man in my book…well, after Zach Braff. “24″ has consistently been a great show… Not all TV is going to reality wasteland.

I’ve run out of Puffins again. Think I’ll try switching to Kellogg’s Special K w/ Red Berries… like it just as much… but I don’t usually eat it as a snack… the Special K is truly a breakfast only cereal in my household.

Well, that’s about it for today.

Gotta go earn me some shoe money today (so, tomorrow I can go buy me a new pair of shoes)

Bye for now.
